In order to support student choice and promote a lifelong love of reading, Franklin Middle School will again conduct its Summer Reading Program.

This year we will be using a Reading BINGO activity and students will receive a raffle ticket for each row of BINGO completed. Students will use these tickets to enter a variety of prize drawings. Students will turn in completed BINGO cards to their English Language Arts teacher at the start of the school year.

students who read three Gr. 6-9 Black Eyed Susan Nominees by April 2020 will be eligible to cast a vote in the Maryland Association of School Librarians’ B.E.S. Contest. For questions about the Summer Reading Program, please contact Ms. Cooper at .

Black-Eyed Susan books will be available through the public library, the FMS Library, and the Pikeville location of Barnes and Noble. Students who do not owe any BCPS library obligations and who are returning to FMS in the fall, may check out up to 3 books over the summer from our FMS library.

Please see the links below for a copy of the Reading BINGO assignment and the Black Eyed Susan nominee book descriptions.

Extra copies will be available in our front office over the summer.  If you have any business/community connections who would be willing to donate raffle prizes in the fall, please contact Ms. Samay at .

Please remember that reading and writing are life-long activities. Students deserve opportunities to enjoy the literary experience and expand their understanding of our world. We appreciate your support and certainly hope that you continue to encourage your child to read!
