Dear Parents/Guardians of Current and New Franklin Middle School Students,

Franklin Middle School will again conduct its Summer Reading Program in order to promote excitement about reading and writing.  We ask that students read ONE Black-Eyed Susan novel and complete ONE of the assignment options.  Books will be available through the public library, the FMS Library, and will be in stock at the Pikesville Barnes and Noble branch. *Please note, students can check out up to 3 books over the summer from our FMS library. Please see Mrs. Samay, our media specialist, for a permission slip. This must completed and returned to her. Summer book checkout will occur June 6th-8th.

Please visit our school website at where you can print a copy of the assignment and the Black Eyed Susan nominees. Extra copies will be available in our front office over the summer.

Students must complete ONE of the writing prompts. When students report to their English (Language Arts) classes during the first week of school, they should submit the completed assignment. All students who successfully complete the assignment, will be invited to an incentive activity.  Students who read three Black Eyed Susan Nominees by April 2018 will be eligible to cast a vote in the Maryland Association of School Librarians’ B.E.S. Contest.

Please remember that reading and writing are life-long activities. Students deserve opportunities to enjoy the literary experience and expand their understanding of our world. We appreciate your support and certainly hope that you continue to encourage your child to read!
