FRANKLIN MIDDLE SCHOOL: SUMMER READING PROGRAM

2018-2019

*This assignment must be submitted to your Language Arts teacher at the beginning of the school year.*

Dear Parents/Guardians of Current and New Franklin Middle School Students,

Franklin Middle School will again conduct its Summer Reading Program in order to promote excitement about reading and writing.  This year we are trying something new. All teachers and students will be encouraged to read the same book!! This will contribute to excellent discussions and a sense of community! The book we have selected is:

THE PLAYBOOK: 52 Rules to Aim, Shoot, and Score
in a game called LIFE

By: Kwame Alexander

In addition to reading this, students must complete the two writing prompts on THEME and turn their written responses in to their Language Arts teacher at the start of the year. Students may choose to type their responses or add extra paper if needed. All students who successfully complete the assignment, will be invited to participate in an incentive activity.  Participating in this Summer Reading activity will also allow students to be a part of school-wide discussions and activities.

This book will be available through the public library, and will be in stock at the Pikesville Barnes and Noble branch.

Please visit our school website at franklinms.bcps.org.  Click on the Student tab and then, Summer Reading. You can print a copy of the assignment, or copies will be available in our front office over the summer. The assignment and directions are attached below and were distributed at FMS and our feeder elementary schools the last week of the school year.

Reading and writing are life-long activities. Students deserve opportunities to enjoy the literary experience and expand their understanding of our world. We appreciate your support and certainly hope that you continue to encourage your child to read!

Sincerely,

Ms. Amy Samay, Library Media Specialist, asamay@bcps.org
