24 Challenge – Mr. Sakers
Focus on learning and improving play in the various types of the 24 Challenge game. Prior experience is not necessary, as we will start with the basics and work our way toward mastery level of the games. Some club members will work their way into the County Championship Competition. Meets every Tuesday from 2:40 p.m. - 3:20 p.m. in Room 300.
Black Saga – Mrs. Watson
The Black Saga club develops cultural awareness, pride, tolerance, and appreciation for the diverse contributions of African-Americans in America. Students have the opportunity to compete in a quiz show format at the Baltimore County Black Saga Competition and at the Maryland State Black Saga Competition.
Book Club - Mrs. Gailunas & Mrs. Sears
Students read selected books and join lunchtime discussion groups to share their ideas and insights.
C.A.N. – Mr. L. Zuckerman
“Community Action Network” provides students with the opportunity to serve their communities through education, action, and advocacy.
Catch Up Club -- Mr. L. Zuckerman
Students who attend this club will:
- Complete homework
- Organize binders
- Complete missing work
- Study for tests
Teachers may also recommend this intervention to parents or students as a strategy to improve the student's grades. Students must complete a permission slip in order to attend. The permission slip allows the student to attend the club at any time during the year. Please click here to obtain a permission slip. Clay Club – Ms. DiMucci
In Clay Club students learn to work with clay and create projects. Students in the past created a large clay dragon mural that was installed outside the school as a permanent work of art.
Environmental Science Club – Mr. Causarano & Mr. Lashley
The Environmental Science Club promotes environmental awareness and education through meaningful experiences in and around our community. The club sponsors the school wide recycling program and participates in various activities in Maryland to help improve our environment.
Franklin Fan Club – Ms. J. Gordon
The Fan Club provides opportunities for students to experience athletics at the college level. Students will attend various college games to observe skills, concepts, rules, terminology, and sportsmanship/etiquette related to the physical education curriculum.
Future Educators Association – Mrs. Samay
FEA is a club that gives students opportunities to explore teaching as a career option and to participate in community service activities.
Grade 8 Basketball – Mr. Madigan & Mrs. Zinkand
The FMS Basketball team competes with teams from other Baltimore County middle schools. Students are selected through an application process that includes strong athletic skills, above average academic grades, and appropriate behavior. Here is the tentative 2009-2010 Grade 8 Basketball schedule.

Intramurals provide an opportunity for students to participate after school in various activities.
Jump Club – Mr. Lashley, Ms. DiMucci, & Mrs. Zinkand
Jump club will provide the opportunity for physical fitness, by introducing proper workout habits and performing fitness drills.
MATHCOUNTS – Mr. Sakers
Students will enhance problem solving skills in math and have the opportunity to compete against other schools to showcase their talents.
Music – Music Teachers
FMS offers a variety of extracurricular musical groups. These groups include Festival Strings, Chamber Orchestra, Honors Band, and two Jazz Bands. Membership is by audition.
National Junior Honor Society – Mrs. Frisch & Ms. Feldman
FMS National Junior Honor Society’s purpose is to recognize outstanding students based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Members are involved in service activities to benefit the school and community. Students participate in this organization by invitation through a selection process.
National Junior Art Honor Society– Mrs. Sunderlin
NJAHS is an honor society that strives to lead its members towards attaining their highest potential in the arts, through service, leadership, and education. Student participation in this organization is by invitation through a selection process.
Newspaper – Mrs. Green
Students will prepare and publish a newspaper highlighting student accomplishments.
Peer Mediation – Mrs. Arnold
Selected students work under the guidance of school counselors to mediate peer problems and relationships.
Quiz Bowl – Ms. Ross
Quiz Bowl is a team that focuses on current events, media, sports, history, and other aspects of culture. The team competes against other schools in monthly matches.
Student Council -- Ms. Clark & Ms. Rector
The Student Council is an organization that links students with the administration and staff to represent the feelings, opinions, and interests of the student body. The group’s goal is to promote staff recognition, increase school spirit and unity, participate in school and community service, and develop leadership skills.

Students will learn and communicate through sign language.
