24 Challenge:  Students will practice and participate in Baltimore County’s 24 challenge mathematics competition.

Black Saga:  The Black Saga club develops cultural awareness, pride, tolerance, and appreciation for the diverse contributions of African Americans in America.  Students compete in a quiz show format at the Baltimore County Black Saga Competition and at the Maryland State Black Saga Competition.

Sponsors: Mrs. Watson and Mr. Wasserman

C.A.N.:  “Community Action Network” provides students with the opportunity to serve their communities through education, action, and advocacy.

Clay Club:  This year students will learn a variety of hand building techniques.

Meeting Times:  1st Session: Nov 6, 13, 20; Dec 4, 11, 18; Jan 8, 15, 22, 29. 

2nd Session: Feb 5, 12, 19, 26; Mar 5, 12, 19, 26; April 2, 16, 23

 

DARE Dance:  Students will participate in a free progressive program taught by a professional dance instructor in order to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Environmental Science Club:  Environmental Science club promotes environmental awareness and education through meaningful experiences in and around our community.  The club sponsors the school recycling program and participates in various activities in Maryland to help improve our environment.

Sponsors:  Mr. Causarano and Mr. Lashley

Future Educators Association:  FEA is a club that gives students opportunities to explore teaching as a career option and to participate in community service activities.

Grade 8 Basketball:  FMS Basketball is a team of students selected from an application process that includes strong athletic skills, above average academic grades, and appropriate behavior.

Sponsors:  Mrs. Zinkand

Meeting Times:  Monday through Friday 2:45 to 4:45 from November 15-March 1

 

Guitar Club:  Students will to play and enjoy the guitar.

Sponsor:  Mrs. Hestres (Room 109)

Meeting Times:  Every Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30

 

 Intramural Sports:  Intramurals provide an opportunity for students to participate after school in various physical activities.

Sponsors:  Physical Education Department

Meeting Times:  Students will receive monthly calendars with dates of different events.

Students need to see their Physical Education teacher for a schedule and permission slip.

 

Jump Club:  The JUMP club will take students and give them a wide variety of activities that are necessary to stay in good cardiovascular, physical and mental shape.  We will participate in various workout including; agility, speed, endurance, coordination and power drills that are associated with many different sports

Math Counts: Math Counts gives students the opportunity to develop and show off their problem solving skills through practicing various problem solving techniques and completing monthly math challenges.

Meeting Times:  Every Tuesday 2:30 to 3:15

 

Multimedia Design Team/Club: Students create an 8th Grade Farewell presentation/mini-movie and the Student Web Page on the FMS Website.

Sponsors:  Mrs. Kohne and Mrs. Freedman

Meeting Times:  The first Tuesday and last Wednesday of the month (9/2, 9/24, 10/7, 10/29, 11/11, 11/26, 12/2, 12/17, 1/6, 1/28, 2/3, 2/25, 3/3, 3/25, & 4/14) from 2:20 to 3:30. Dates are subject to change with advanced notification to students.

 

Music-Honors Band:  The Honors Band is an after school band for students in all grades, who perform music from the genre, pop.  This band performs two or three concerts yearly.

Meeting Times:  Every Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30

 

Music-Honors Choir:  The FMS Honors Choir provides students with the opportunity to study choral music of higher complexity that that which is offered in each grade level chorus class.  Student must audition for Honors Choir.

Meeting Times:  Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:15

 

Music- Jazz Band:  Students from grades 7 & 8 will earn the rudiments of jazz music in addition to performing swing and big band music.

Meeting Times:  Every Tuesday 2:30 to 3:30

 

National Junior Art Honor Society:  NJAHS is an honor society that strives to lead its members towards attaining their highest potential in the arts, through service, leadership and education.  Students participate in this organization by invitation through a selection process.

Sponsor:  Mrs. Sunderlin

Meeting times:  The Third Wednesday of every month from 2:30 to 3:30

 

National Junior Honor Society:  FMS National Junior Honor Society’s purpose is to recognize outstanding students based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service.  Members are involved in service activities to benefit the school and community.  Students participate in this organization by invitation through a selection process.

Quiz Bowl:  Quiz Bowl is a team that focuses on current events, media, sports, history, and other aspects of culture.  The team competes against other schools in monthly matches.

SADD:  “Students Against Destructive Decisions” is a student run club, open to all grades.  SADD raises awareness about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and violence.

Meeting Times:  Every Wednesday 2:30 to 3:15

 

STEM Club:  Students will explore activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

Sponsors:  Ms. Guerrier

Meeting Times:  Every Wednesday 2:30 to 3:30

 

Student Council:  The Student Council is an organization that links students with the administration and staff to represent the feelings, opinions, and interests of the student body.  The group’s goal is to promote staff recognition, increase school spirit and unity, participate in school and community service, and develop leadership skills.

Sponsors:  Ms. Rector and Ms. Clark

Meeting TimesMs. Rector has a student council homeroom that meets every morning. There are monthly meetings (once or twice a month) after school as needed.

Symphony Orchestra, Festival Strings:  This group is an honors ensemble that will develop orchestral studies by challenging students with more advanced concepts.

Ultimate Frisbee Club:  Provides students with the lessons of teamwork by competing in Ultimate Frisbee.

Sponsor:  Ms. Copenhaver
