C.A.N.:  “Community Action Network” provides students with the opportunity to serve their communities through education, action, and advocacy.

Meeting times:  Tuesday

 

Baseball Club:  Give students the opportunity to develop their baseball skills in a fun competitive environment.

Sponsors:  Mr. Gordon

Meeting times:  Wednesday 2:30 – 4:30

 

Girls Club:  Its purpose is to promote bonds of friendship between the girls and to help them develop self-confidence about themselves as girls by participating in some fun, “just for girls” activities.

Meeting times:  Wednesday 2:30 – 3:30

 

Student Signers:  Students will learn and communicate through sign language.

Sponsors:  Ms. Frisch

Meeting times:  Wednesday 2:30 – 3:15

 

After School Homework Club:  Meet with students and assist their academic performance through homework assistance.

Sponsors:  Mr. Zuckerman

Meeting times: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 2:30 – 3:30.

 

Jump Club:  In this club we will provide the opportunity for physical fitness, by introducing proper workout habits and performing fitness drills.

Sponsors:  Mr. Lashley

Meeting times: Tuesday 2:30-3:45

 

Scrapbook Club:  In this club students will build friendships while creating photo albums. 

Sponsors:  Ms. Yearick and Ms. Rizzo

Meeting times: 1st Wednesday of each month 2:30-3:30, 3rd Wednesday of each month 2:30-4:00

 

Golf Team:  Play and practice golf at a local golf course.

Sponsors:  Mr. Mager

Meeting times:  Meet once per week for 8 weeks in the spring.

 

Spanish Culture Club:  Provide students an opportunity to learn about the customs and products of Hispanic cultures in the U.S. as well as in Spanish speaking countries.

Sponsors:  Ms. McShane and Ms. Perrin

Meeting times: Wednesdays 2:30 – 3:30 from Oct. 17 – Nov. 28 and Feb. 20 – Mar. 19.

 

Mentoring Program:  We build relationships that encourage and support academic achievement, organizational skills, study habits, and social and emotional development.

Diamonds of Excellence:  We create and promote sisterhood among the young ladies of Franklin Middle School.

Clay Club:  This year students will learn a variety of hand building techniques.

Environmental Science Club:  Environmental Science club promotes environmental awareness and education through meaningful experiences in and around our community.  The club sponsors the school recycling program and participates in various activities in Maryland to help improve our environment.

Future Educators Association:  FEA is a club that gives students opportunities to explore teaching as a career option and to participate in community service activities.

Grade 8 Basketball:  FMS Basketball is a team of students selected from an application process that includes strong athletic skills, above average academic grades, and appropriate behavior.

Sponsors:  Ms. Zinkand and Mr. Lashley

Meeting Times:  Monday through Friday 2:45 to 4:45 from November 15-March 1

 

Peer Leadership:  A Peer Leader is a student who will be a role model for students at FMS.  They will model and encourage citizenship through recognition activities.

Sponsor:  Mrs. Boxman and Officer Binder

Meeting Time:  Every other Monday starting October 2, 2007

 

Quiz Bowl:  Quiz Bowl is a team that focuses on current events, media, sports, history, and other aspects of culture.  The team competes against other schools in monthly matches.

Meeting Times:  Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30

 

SADD:  “Students Against Destructive Decisions” is a student run club, open to all grades.  SADD raises awareness about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and violence.

Sponsor:   Ms. Gibson

Meeting Time:  Every other Wednesday in room 204.

 

Student Council:  The Student Council is an organization that links students with the administration and staff to represent the feelings, opinions, and interests of the student body.  The group’s goal is to promote staff recognition, increase school spirit and unity, participate in school and community service, and develop leadership skills.

Symphony Orchestra, Festival Strings:  This group is an honors ensemble that will develop orchestral studies by challenging students with more advanced concepts.

Sponsor:  Mr. Lavalle

Meeting Time:  Every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30

 

Music- Chamber Orchestra:  The FMS Chamber Orchestra is a selected group of 10 players in the 7th and 8th grade that possess the skills to perform in a small setting.  These students are selected by director only.

Meeting Time:  Every Friday from 2:30-3:30

 

Music-Honors Choir:  The FMS Honors Choir provides students with the opportunity to study choral music of higher complexity that that which is offered in each grade level chorus class.  Student must audition for Honors Choir.

Meeting Time:  Every Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30

 

Music-Honors Band:  The Honors Band is an after school band for students in all grades, who perform music from the genre, pop.  This band performs two or three concerts yearly.

Meeting Time:  Every Thursday from 2:30-3:30

 

Music- Jazz Band:  Students from grades 7 & 8 will earn the rudiments of jazz music in addition to performing swing and big band music.

Meeting Time:  Every Tuesday 2:30-3:30

 

Music- Thursday Jazz Band:  The Thursday Jazz Band will give students in all grades an opportunity to play jazz music in a band setting.

Intramural Sports:  Intramurals provide an opportunity for students to participate after school in various physical activities.

Sponsors:  All physical education teachers

Meeting times:  Students will receive monthly calendars with dates of different events. Schedule and Permission slip

 

Black Saga:  The Black Saga club develops cultural awareness, pride, tolerance, and appreciation for the diverse contributions of African Americans in America.  Students compete in a quiz show format at the Baltimore County Black Saga Competition and at the Maryland State Black Saga Competition.

National Junior Art Honor Society:  NJAHS is an honor society that strives to lead its members towards attaining their highest potential in the arts, through service, leadership and education.  Students participate in this organization by invitation through a selection process.

Meeting times:  Third Wednesday of every month from 2:30 to 3:30

 

National Junior Honor Society:  FMS National Junior Honor Society’s purpose is to recognize outstanding students based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service.  Members are involved in service activities to benefit the school and community.  Students participate in this organization by invitation through a selection process.

DARE Dance:  Students will participate in a free progressive program taught by a professional dance instructor in order to promote a healthy lifestyle.
